Not bad, if you don't mind selling your house to buy one, and living in a tent.

According to my memory of the article, they were not making full power on the engine because it was running hot and they had to have a defroster to keep the canopy from fogging over. Also, water was washing high up over the canopy during water taxi. However, the author said he liked the plane a lot. One shocker was a 10:1 glide ratio for a seaplane. Cost was about $90K, I think, but I don't remember if that was the SeaPlane only or the Amphib.

I've seen it fly and taxi, both in displacement mode and on the step. (Step-taxied alongside it at Oshkosh 2005.) I had some concern at first about water rolling up the nose in fast displacement taxi, but it didn't seem to cause any problems and there was no indication of porposing at any time. All in all, it looks terrific and appears to handle well. My only reservation is that the canopy might be hard to open under water and it's probably hot in there when taxiing.

That nose does look down close to the water. I can imagine anything more than 3' waves going over rather than under.

I like some of the things in this plane. 1. I believe it has a structural composite hull, not a bolt together, with a shell. Makes it much lighter 2. The Horizontal stab is high, so as not to become a problem in rough water. 3. It has a very nice looking cowl. I'll be glad when we get a 'glass' guy into a Searey, so someone can build a strong yet lightweight cowl. With a good muffler system, we don't need to see all of the engine for a preflight.

I DON'T like the canopy. HOT
