Description:
My SeaRey flew yesterday. October 9th, for the first time without incident. Engine temps were running warm and may require some adjustments to radiator, air flow and/or mount, but otherwise flew nicely according to the test pilot, Jim Ratte. He went to 1500' and 75 mph cruise speed. More test flying in a few days. On the third flight (after testing the landing gear deploy and retraction on the second) he'll see if it floats. I began this project looking for Part A to bolt to Part B five and a half years ago. I was looking for a challenge with some education and pleasure mixed in. It's been a real pleasure, with a new subject to learn each time I began a new area (for example: fabric covering, wiring, bleeding brakes, etc.). One subject I've yet to learn is how to fly this amphibian, and I need to take the factory training before I can (safely) fly. Many folks too numerous to list have lent a hand--for which I am grateful, and who offered encouragement, which I needed since I began to run out of steam toward the end--but most of all I thank Ann who never once said 'do you have to work on that thing again?' (Nor, 'Why don't you go downstairs to work on that thing?') I also thank PA and STS'ers for tons of help, advice and guidance over the 5.5 years!
Frank * Note: 'Second Chance' is the name I selected for the airplane, naming it after Ann who's maiden name is Chance, and since the 30 pounds of parachute I added offers this opportunity. As far as the FAA is concerned, Second Chance will be known as 'Experimental N813GP', a number selected with the help of grand children: 'August 13th (my BD), Gulf (where I live) Papa'

Great job Frank, now it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Definately put lots of time in with Kerrry or Paige, time and money well spent!

Congratulations Frank. I know you are glad you stuck with it. Start saying this until you wake up at night saying it: 'Gear down for land. Gear up for water'. Never make another landing in anything without thinking about your gear position as often as your flap position.

Outstanding! Ain't it a great feeling to have it in the air? Every time I get airborne now, I catch myself remembering when it was just a dream.

Frank, it's been a long and enjoyable journey for you, but just wait 'til you're in the left seat. You'll sport that SeaRey grin and will never want wheels again. Congrats and enjoy.

What you gonna build next?

Thanks Bruno,
I had to look up FUlicitation; in English it means 'good wishes for a special occasion'. I like it! I will use the
word.
