Hi Frank:

Congratulations.

Having 'enjoyed' my own 'dance' with the boys at TC, I sure can empathize.

Hope to see you up at Silver Lake a day or two from now. I had planned on collecting John Dunlop and heading up today but am still'AOG' due to an ignition problem. This past weekend, I flew down to Picton, to enjoy a wonderful fly-in breakfast and to take Dave Edwards up for a flight. Alas, things didn't work out as planned. No problems landing at Dave's place, but once I had him on board, I simply couldn't get the bird off the water! I would love to be able to blame Dave for this but I had to admit to him that I had taken a slightly heavier (255 pounds) friend up a few days previously so I couldn't blame Dave's weight (sigh). At first, I thought I had collected a bunch of water weed on the rudder and that this was slowing us down. Not. Shortly thereafter, I noted that the engine was delivering much reduced RPMs at full throttle..... no wonder we were not getting airborne. Still, good things come from even disappointing events.... I managed to pursuade Dave to swim for shore so I wouldn't 'de-weed' his nifty cove. (g)

With reduced weight I then managed to get airborne and limped over to a nearby airport. A few minutes later, the problem was discovered.... one of the Rotax electronic modules was acting up and was not providing a spark to the aft cylinders. I jury rigged a repair and flew home. Today, I am chasing down new Rotax connecting plugs and associated bits. Hopefully, I will be airborne and heading north on Wednesday or Thursday.

Best,
Larry

Great to see you passed all the hurdles and you got your airplane in the air. Just keep those TC bureaucrats in line.

Congratulations Frank on First Flight! Ahhhhggg...a year to build....I guess it helps to know what you're doing. Looks terrific. Ah, whats with the water rudder, I thought everyone was removing them?

Frank Noordhuis - Jun 26,2007 Viewers | Reply
The rudder going Frank, just installed it according to instructions in the PA manual.
At the Northern gaggle I saw how this rudder could and would dig into the beach sand and could stress stuff, it's not needed for it actual functionality but might look good in some eyes.

The MDRA inspection people would see a stock build SeaRey.
With all the problems I've had with Transport Canada over the last 4 years trying to get it in the air I was not going to deviate to much from out of the box stock aircraft and gross weight.

If I could write as good as Dan, follow the comic edge aviation writings of Garth Wallace my story might make amusing reading. The one bigger lesson I learned during the C-FEUD process is never trust the government and Canadian aviation authorities because internally these organizations are run by the Old boys club.
They are like getting Niagara falls to run backwards..LoL

Sorry..less than a year... but you can't have a real Job and build at the same time to do it.
