Description: The weather looked much nicer at the coast. The airplane was humming along and only my stomach was grumbling. I decided a quick stop at Crystal River to top off tanks, airplane and human, was in order.

A look at the satellite picture in the FBO showed clear skies near and ahead. With full tanks, I settled in for a good, long flight.

The problem with the gear quickly reappeared as I climbed out. The circuit breaker popped as soon as the landing gear was retracted.

“Now what?”

Head back into deteriorating weather? Head on towards Mexico and hope I could fix the gear problem? Something in between?

Ultimately I could not convince myself that I could fix the gear in transit. Further, I didn’t want to even try at an unfamiliar airport with few tools. I decided to turn back.
