Bruno you scruffy looking SOB. All that snow outside means you have lots of time to get the panel done. You better have it done for the fly-in!

Ah man, Bruno, if you're serious about flying to the Gaggle, you'll shame me into going. How can we meet up and fly together? You won't have to go through customs like I would.....

Yes Bruno I live in Hudson ME, on Little Pushaw Lake. And yes I have a Stingray. But it has no transponder so flying it into Canada is out of the question anyway, and I'm not sure I can afford to install one before the gaggle.

Mark, I think it's possible to get a waiver for the transponder. (I followed a NORDO Stearman into Canada once.) Also, I think that if you cross the border with another airplane that has a working transponder, you won't need one.

But you'll need a passport, proof of insurance, and pilot and medical certificates. In theory you also need a radio license (if you have a transmitter), but I was told upon entering Canada that they don't ask to see it because they know that almost no US pilots have them.

Don, just today I was looking at a 'what you need to fly into Canada' card at my local airport and was very surprised at the radio license requirement. US pilots haven't had those in a loooong time. I'm sure this has got to be some obsolete requirement that they haven't bothered to remove yet.

I've heard I could follow someone else with a xponder; all the same I'd feel more comfortable with my own.

What insurance is required? All I have is liability.

Us Canadians don't need a radio licence up here! If we do, forgive me, for I have sinned.

Mark, re insurance, all you require is proof of liability insurance.
I have a restricted radio licence for aircraft issued in 1970 and reissued in 1978 for marine as well. I have NEVER been asked for it, let alone on reentering Canada. I'm sure no US pilot would be asked for one. You have to remember that these customs and immigration agents could care less about IFR, Seaplane, tail dragger endorsements etc.. Somewhere in all the legalease there is a statement that permits pilots who are legally certificated in their own country (Canada or the USA) to fly their aircraft across our common border (without arranging for certification in the neighboring country unless they need to fly a locally registered aircraft.) The only issue that I can think of is the liability insurance one.

I have posted information on radio licencing and insurance pertinent to entering Canada (and re-entering the US) on the Gaggle website:
http://www.seareycanada.com/border.htm

For lots of new Georgian Gaggle goodies go to the Gaggle Home page:
http://www.seareycanada.com/GAGGLE.htm
And just start pushing the buttons!
