Description: The Umatilla Chamber of Commerce is hosting a fly-in at the Umatilla Airport (X23) on Saturday, April 12, 2008. This is being held in conjunction with the Florida Black Bear Festival that is taking place in town at the same time.

We are still working out the details, but there will certainly be some type of static display of aircraft (possibly a US Army Firehawk) as well as transportation to the Black Bear Festival located a half-mile away. We may also have some type of breakfast that morning.

I know it is the last weekend of sun-n-fun, but it may be a good stopping point for anyone heading north from Lakeland that day. (May also have fuel available for the day.)

If you’re not familiar with Umatilla, it is about 13 miles north of Bob White (X61), the runway has recently been renovated, and the city is currently constructing new hangars that will be available for rent late this year.

I will post more info as the event comes together.

    Carl,
Great Idea, but it might be a bad day. I think that is a great little airport and I am happy the local government is supporting it. I would love to be there but fear I will still be at Sun N Fun. There is a mass exodus from Sun N Fun Saturday, but unless you are advertising cheap fuel, I don’t think you will have much luck detouring the flock. Most of the Saturday afternoon flyers all crank up after the end of the airshows and have a definite plan to get from A to B and always are getting a late start due to the traffic.

The Black Bear festival sounds interesting. I live in the National Forest just north of there and recently had one that was pushing 400 lbs in my yard. Unfortunately, my wife told me it looks like some one killed it on the local highway.
