Description: A lonely rock pinnacle stands strongly against the sea’s onslaught. It was once part of resistant strand of rock extending into the ocean. Through the eons of crushing battle, only a small remnant remains. Geologists call them “stacks”. That is so bland. They should be called “stalwarts” or “sentinels” or “bastions” or even “mavericks” (Oh, wait! Some politicians have taken to calling themselves “mavericks” and its meaning will be changed to something completely different. Forget that. Stacks it is.)
