Description: The self-guided tour of the fort includes a walk around the top wall (roof?), which provided a nice vantage point to see our SeaReys resting comfortably on the beach. However, not all of the residents of the fort would have found it as comfortable we did. Aside from the men who toiled on its construction, several prisoners were also held here, including Dr. Samuel Mudd, who treated John Wilkes Booth for a leg which he broke while fleeing the theatre in which he shot Abraham Lincoln. Mudd was later pardoned, after spending 4 years at the fort.

Another great SeaRey photo, Dave! Did the tide cause you any trouble?

The tide did go out a bit in the 4 hours we were there, but between the two of us, it wasn't hard to slide the SeaReys back into the water. The tricky part was that the wind was blowing from the right in this photo and we needed to taxi left, past the rocky area just behind Jim's plane. Some quick footwork was required to point the bow away from shore, jump in, start up and get enough airflow over the tail for a downwind taxi before weathervaning in the wrong direction.
