But it's not all Fun and Games It's a life and death struggle down on the ever-changing beach That's why it's better to be in the air above the fray.

Thanks, Dave. The sea may not always win, though, if theories of “Snowball Earth†are true. In that case most of the oceans were frozen during neoproterozoic and palaeoproterzoic periods, with maybe a band of slush around the equator. It seems as if life has always influenced the seas and global climate. The eons old battle continues.

Two yellow birds: One one year old, one yet to fly. Both yeller. But not the same: one has blue trim, one black. One to return to Norfolk, VA. One waiting for a new owner. SeaRey Central May 18, 2019

This is one of the coolest FBO buildings around. It's Bent Wing Flight Services at Fernandina Beach (KFHB). It's a reflection of the airport's usage as a F4U Corsair base in WWII.

Two bent wings? Local aviation developers are working on a through-the-fence access for their project on Crane Island.

The U.S.S. Yorktown is famously the "Fighting Lady", but enjoys a bit of ultralight notoriety in that a Buc XA from Gator Field landed on its deck in the 1990's while it was in use as local broadcasting station. No one would have believed it but the pilot had video to prove it! The U.S.S. Laffey, a destroyer aka "The Ship that would not Die" from Okinawa, is parked alongside the carrier.

Lock and Dam #1 on the Cape Fear River, NC was built in the early 1900's. It was recently modified to create some cool rock arch rapids, restoring access to andrornous fish (shad and herring).
