And to think you're giving her and her family free room and board.

Wow, how long before you can get to the end of the dock? Maybe next time don't wear your raccoon hat.

Don, is there any possibility of Fish & Game folks relocating the nest? I don't know much about that, but seems too bad you've lost the use of your pier. I know the situation was tolerable before, but now it's changed.

In some states, aka MD, the Fish and Game folks are more likely to move Don. Once saw an Osprey nest on a beautiful sailboat which the owner was prohibited from using.

It's not as bad as it seems. We can still walk out to the end of the pier, even though she protests and tries to scare us away. I don't think she'd get much closer than she did in the video because surely she knows I'm bigger, and she doesn't eat long pig--or any other land meat. Also, I think the wind had her worried that the three chicks would get blown out of the nest. (Of course, they wouldn't if she just stayed on top of them, but maybe she didn't think of that.)
The male's job is to fly away as soon as I come out the back door, I suppose because he hopes I'll follow him away from the nest. Anyway, he's no threat. If the two of them ganged up on me, though, it would be a different game altogether. I might have to carry my hockey stick out there to defend myself. Is there a penalty for high-sticking a bird?
I've already relocated the nest once and will move it this winter to a pole about 30 feet farther away from the pier. (I started that job last year, but that pole jiggled in strong winds, and I relented when the ospreys groused about it.
