I once seriously considered the Seastar (pre-Super Petrel) before settling on building a Searey/buying a Stingray. Had all the brochure crap for it, and saw one fly at the lake at Sun&Fun several years ago (they arrived late in the week and weren't giving rides).

Would you buy one of these over an Icon?

Its less than $90,000.00, Its been refined, the tail is all composite now, no wires. It has a cruse speed of 110 mph, VNE of 130 mph. Whats the SeaRey Sport go for? $120,000.00?
I would like to be a Dealer and sell them for $120,000.00 and make $30,000.00 each. I'd only have to sell 2 or 3 a year.

What do you mean by, 'the tail is all composite now, no wires'? The tail has always been composite. They had wires in the tail structure? The original Petrel that crashed at Oshkosh years ago when the tail snapped off, had a composite tail. In addition to it being stressed earlier when the guys pulled it out of the water by the tail after the hull filled with rain, it was determined that the tail boom did not have all of the composite layers it was supposed to.

When the Seastar flew around the lake at Sun&Fun, two of us watching commented on how much the tail shook back and forth as the plane maneuvered, and we were not impressed. I hope this is a problem that has been remedied with the Super Petrel.

The other thing that concerned me with the Seastar's company (at that time), was the almost total lack of marketing of that homebuilt kit in the United States. They were known in Brazil and Canada, but not here. That was a red flag for me. Maybe all this has been changed and improved with the new company, ownership, and redesign?
Good luck to you if you pursue a dealership with them, and let us know how it goes. I may still be interested down the road.

He means the tail used to be fabric covered like the Sea Rey. Now it's solid composite and I believe they lengthed the hull slightly too. As far as pricing goes that 85 gs is actually a bit high in my estimate because Brazil has a 20% sales tax that I believe they are incorrectly applying to that price.

Additionally the aircraft is not yet on the official list of Approved LSA designs. But it probably will not be long until it is.

Hey, I'm just daydreaming if I were a rich man I would like to be the US dealer.
