Just in case any of ya'll are interested in a Florida lake home - (I've got nothing to do with or commission from the owners) There are at least three houses on my lake for sale. Love to have another Searey on the lake.

Lake Church is 10 miles NNW of TPA and 11 miles to the gulf with a gazillion lakes around.

Contact me back channel if you want info.

Russ' place is much more suited for seareys than this lake - his has a hanger and parking for 20+ planes.

Hey Russ, I'd buy it, but it's just a little to far away to commute to work everyday for me!

So does this mean the end of Garners Fly in when you see the house? Or do you have another lake your
moving too?

Does the plane come with the house?

Forget the plane, Dennis. The important question is: Does Lou Ann come with the house?

John, we can change the name on the sign real easy but if a SeaRey owner buys the place he's obligated to keep the SeaRey Gatherings going. Dennis, where I go so goes the plane and Lou Ann unless I wanted to get a real job Don.

I would hope so. The gatherings there are always fun. DO you and Lou Ann know where you'll are moving
too yet?

John, I've always been a traveler it's hard for me to stay in one place too long. Our plan is to go mobile for awhile with the SeaRey and a motor-home and see the country. Dan's journeys are an inspiration, we just can't do something like that and hold down this house.

I understand that completely. I am jealous. I have always envisioned going to different parts of the country
and flying around like what you and your wife want to do. Just traveling around to grass strips would be
something interesting to do and camping out there.

Russ, if you already have a trailer to tow behind the motorhome, would you send some pics. If I ever finish my Searey I will do the same around Oz

Ken, on Google Map there's a Church Lake in about that area....is that it?

Dang it man, I was down that way for over a month last spring....too bad we didn't meet up.
Yup - some maps call it Lake Church, some Church Lake. We're just south of the big boot shaped lake. (Keystone)

Also in Winter Haven.............Travis Elmore's home on Lake Winterset (about 450 acres). He had a Searey there and has a hangar and concrete taxiway into the water. Pool, etc etc.

Pat, I had a 22' tandem axle trailer built to make the move to Florida from CA in 1998. We made three trips out to Fl. with the trailer the first trip I brought the SeaRey out and stored it at Lakeland airport while we worked on the property. I sold it a few years after we had the house built. The trailer at the time I had it built only cost $3500. The problem I had was the trailer was only 6' wide. My SeaRey is a B-hull with the old style shorter gear legs and it measures about 85' to the outside of the wheels. If I made the trailer that wide inside the floor of the trailer would need to go over the trailer wheels that would make the whole trailer higher off the ground. The other way to do it is let the wheels of the trailer protrude inside the trailer and box them in. You would then have to get the wheels of the plane over the trailer wheels to load it. The way I got my SeaRey in that trailer was by removing the wheels and axles from the spindle housings. I replaced the axles on the inside of the spindle housings that way I could slide the wheels back on the axles from the inside this gave me enough room to roll the SeaRey in the trailer. Legally in most of the US your trailer can be 8-1/2 feet wide in most states but not all.

How did you hang the wings inside the trailer?

Russ Garner - Oct 16,2009 Viewers | Reply
Pat, I used two big wide cargo straps for each wing and hung the wings from the roof support tubing in the trailer laying the leading edge in the bottom of the straps and the bottom of the wings resting against the wall of the trailer. This worked great. I removed the both horizontals and the rudder and laid them under the back of the plane. There was room around the SeaRey to pack a lot of odds and ends for this first trip out to Florida. You can use the cargo straps to hold the wings out the back of the trailer so they can be attached to the root tube. I can by myself install the wings and the horizontal and have the SeaRey ready to fly in about 2 hours with a little help even faster so trailering the SeaRey around is not a bad way to go.
