I am going to fly my Titan Tornado into Southerland Airport (Just east of Sanford Airport) on Monday morning for a possible buyer so I can buy my Searey soon afterward. I was wondering if anyone has ever been there. I just would like to know how the field is, I.E. trees on the end, is it a smooth runway, etc. Any information would be helpful. I am going to fly from Grass Roots Airpark and fly the corridor between Orlando and Sanford to get there. Thanks from a future Searey owner,Charles<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Haven't been there Charles, but looking at Google Earth, it measures to about 1600' x 100' with at least 400' of clear area at each end.

charels...was that you I talked to this morning on the radio? I was the one looking for any other seareys in <br />the area. Southerland is a fairly small airport. You should be able to get in and out with no issues. Good luck <br />on your searey

Daniel, Yes that was me on the radio, it was a great day for flying. Yeah, I don't think it will be an issue either but I just wanted to see if anyone has been there before. I looked on Google earth as well and it did not seem that bad. Well we will see how Monday goes, I just want my Searey....soon!!<br />

It has been several years since I landed there, Charles. What I recall is the power lines and road on the west side. Joe Becker keeps his SeaRey there. Contact him or check out this link for detailed information: <a href="http://airnav.com/airport/FD92">http://airnav.com/airport/FD92</a>

Charles...Yes, I live on Southerland Strip! My home is all the way at the eastern most end of the extended runway, in fact, NEXT DOOR to the guy you are seeing tomorrow!! Too bad I will not be here when you arrive. Anyway, the field is 110/290, is 2150 feet long and about 100 feet wide. There is a public road at each end of the runway and you must cross over the top of them at a minimum of 20 feet. We have 'threshold markers' at each end which will assist you in judging your touchdown point. There are two wind socks...one on the north side of the R/W about mid field and one on the east end on top of one of the neighbor's hangar. I usually check Lake Harney to determine the true wind as the trees around the runway sometimes will play tricks with you. The frequency is 122.75 and the identifier is FD92. The strip looks a little short from the air if you are not used to it, but it is not bad at all getting in or out. One last thing, if you are landing on 110 and wanting to make a 'controlled' decent to landing (as if you were flying the ball), there are power lines located about 1/2 mile to the west of the touchdown for 110. I have worked out a 'formula' so that if I am level at 300 feet when crossing over the top of the power lines, indicating 65 mph and set a 500 foot per minute rate of descent I will be just about right on the money for the threshold. Of course, you will have to jockey the throttle a little because of the burbles over and around the trees at the west end of the field. Good flying and good luck with your possible sale. If you need to contact me, you can call at 407-421-6958.

Joe, Thanks for the great info. I wish you were going to be available tomorrow as well, I would like to see you Searey to get some ideas. I hope this deal goes well too, the only problem is that it's going to be a partnership buy (Joe and two others) so they all have to like the plane for the deal to go through. Wish me luck, I am so close to having my Searey but yet so far away. Thanks once again.

Are you going to be buying a kit? Or do you already know of a searey that you want to buy?

Charles Cantrill - Oct 26,2009   Viewers  | Reply
I already have a Searey that I am going to be buying and it is sitting in my hanger at Gator field. All I have to do is find a buyer for my Titan and the following weekend I will have my Searey. That is why I said it is so close buy yet so far away..hahaha. Just can't wait to be flying the Searey.
