The newbie here! I am a 65 year old retired Vietnam veteran that has renewed my interest in flying. My commercial pilot instrument airplane, multi engine and CFI are now accompanied by the only medical I can get.....my drivers license.....lolI am interested in taking flight training this fall for a tail dragger endorsement and sea plane in a SeaRey. Once that is accomplished and my passion to fly has not been diluted I intend on actively seeking a partnership with someone or fractional ownership. I am located in Michigan on Lake St. Clair. Zip 48045 and in Florida in the winter at Cape Coral Tarpon Point estates. If that fails I will look for my own plane. I have visited the factory but unable to get a ride in the plane as of yet. I weigh 240 lbs on a good day and have been told that two hunks like me and a baloney sandwich won't get air born on the water unless we are going down hill.....lol What I think I am saying is that a 914 and a carbon hull would be in order if I want to take passengers. (My wife is only 140 lbs.) Do you think the 1430 weight limit may be increased by what ICON just accomplished??? There is hope for me yet. That and Weight Watchers....I have never been impressed with a group of people that I have met so far with a common interest. People have been so helpful…. I look forward to any input, suggestions, advice, and encouragements. If anyone is in the area of my home please come in and land (wheels up) 42.34.00 082.50.00 I'll buy lunch and have 10 gallons of premium gas at dockside. Welcome John and best wishes getting back in the air. I recently returned to flying my Searey. It is a
great way to get above the trees. You have a lot of capable Searey pilots down there in Florida. I am a
slim 235 lbs. so you should just plan to build light.

Thanks Tim where are you at in Florida. I am looking forward to the transition training in the
fall...

John, I am located in Atlanta. The factory maintains a list of folks who can help transition.

John will make a good addition to the Searey community. Sharon and I flew in to his home on Lake St. Clair
earlier this summer. Had to communicate with Selfridge Air Base on the way in, they where putting KC
135's in the air that day and John lives within their 5 mile circle. Wanted to take him up but my 912 wasn't
up to the task with the wind and waves on the lake that day. It doesn't take much of a wind to put a good
chop on that lake especially if the wind is coming in from across the lake. We did have a nice visit and John
and I enjoy talking 'Searey' often.

Weighing in at good 235, I have found my SeaRey LSX is easier to
land heavy. The aircraft is fully capable of flying several 100 lbs above
the SLA 1430 wt limit. In fact as the builder you can designate
whatever weight you want on the FAA certification form. I believe your
real wt limit is lack of a FAA medical that leaves you at the 1430 SLA
limit.

Welcome John. We apparently share several common interests: flying, Florida, and eating. Consequently, I'm enjoying my 1.5 place SeaRey in Fort Myers across the river from Cape Coral and I'm looking for a partnership for my 1985 Piper Archer based at Page Field. If interested give me a call; or if not interested, give me a call.

Got My Tail &
Sea ratings just 3 weeks ago - enjoyed the new challange of all that. . Simply stated,,, this
Airplane IS TOO MUCH FUN!! Flying 1000 feet AGL is considered very high :-) Landing
on the water is NOT TO BE MISSED! Best money I have spent in a very long tine! Go For
It.. Oh, as my instructor said, If the Log is moving at 5 kts, it isn't a log :-)

Scotty

John, when the tanker unit at Selfridge was sent to MacDill, many of your neighbors moved to the Tampa
area and now work with me. Welcome to the searey community.
