         splash-in

With the current vaccination rate, it looks like Saturday October 2 will be good for this year's splash-in, and we hope you can come!

Lunch around noon.

WHERE? Google "Tar Bay". It's in the broad James River, 5 miles east of Hopewell VA, 12 miles south of KRIC, 5 miles out on the 260 degree radial of the HPW VOR.

Or use these GPS coordinates: N 37.3077º, W -077.2164º

The weather in early October is usually very nice here—SKC, light air and warm. And the water is still comfortable.

We'll send out updates in the summer and late in September.

If you missed last year's splash-in --Hah, so did we! But here's a video about 2019.

RAIN DATES: Sunday, 3 October 2021; Saturday, 16 October 2021.

And as always, we're delighted whenever someone splashes in here. Almost any time works, even if the (fresh water) tide is very low. Just give us a heads-up at 804-543-7110 beforehand to be sure we'll be home.

* If you’re coming in a seriously big, deep-draft seaplane, like a PBY (please do!), see the special “Deep Water Anchorage” instructions in the full invitation.

Waiting for the vaccination rate may have been a waste of time--but in any case, the splash-in is ON! Huzzah!

We hope you can join us!

We finally had the 2020 splash-in on October 2, 2021, and everybody seemed to have a good time. About 30 people and ten seaplanes, plus mine. Only four "Adventures," all but one on departure, and no damage, nobody hurt, and all planes got home within 24 hours. So pbbbbt! on Covid-19. Film at... well, sometime soon.

Here's the video of the splash-in. It includes not only 12 seaplanes, but also two genuine SeaRey Adventures, both of which could have been awfully serious, but turned out well--if you count diagnostic periods lasting 10 days and 14 days as "well."      Attachments:

Other than the troubles, looked like a great time. Wish I was closer, Don. Where was the furthest plane from?

Looks like you had another good one Don.

It was good, Russ, despite everything feeling just slightly off after sitting out 2020 and running late into 2021--26 months elapsed time. But I really miss yours at Garners Landing. They were the best ever.

Mark, the greatest distance flown to this year's splash-in was about 210 nm--Chuck N. from Lake Norman, near Charlotte. Eric B. came a little farther, about 220 nm, from Princeton, but in a landplane, as his Searey was "unavailable" that day, and he had to drive the last 20 miles.

The greatest distance ever was Peter M. from Ocala FL, about 550 nm. But the greatest distance ON THE DAY OF THE SPLASH-IN was Kevin D. from Buffalo, some 350 nm, and he got here well before lunch.
