Seaplane Friends, Saturday July 23 is the best day for this year's splash-in on the James River, and we hope you can come!

.

WHERE? Google "jordan point va". It's near Richmond, in the broad James River, 5 miles east of Hopewell VA, 12 miles south of KRIC, 5 miles out on the 260 degree radial of the HPW VOR. Or use these GPS coordinates:

GPS COORDINATES
decimal degrees N 37.3077º W -077.2164º
degrees, minutes N 37º 18.462' W -077º 12.984'
deg, min, sec N 37º 18' 27.7" W -077º 12' 59.0"

.

TIME & TIDE: High tide will be at 12:12 PM, so the water should be plenty deep enough for everyone from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM*. (It's fresh water all the way downstream to below Jamestown Island, where the salt water fishing license begins. The tide goes up to the fall line, at Richmond.)

Lunch around noon.

RADIO: 123.45 Call "Taj Mahouse" or "Maxwell" when you get close and we'll guide you to the beach or up onto the lawn.

FUEL: No AVGAS, sorry. But there's a high-volume Exxon station 1.5 miles south, and we have 5-gallon cans and a crew car. The Exxon and the marina on our point also have 89 octane gas with no ethanol.

We'll send out reminders around Memorial Day and the end of June.

If you missed last year's splash-in, here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/ux2u6nFK4s4.

RAIN DATE: Sunday, July 24.

A NOTE ON TIDES AND DATES: 2022 is an unusual year for tides here: There are only two weekends in the warm months with high tide near noon, and both are neap tides. Saturday July 23 is a slightly better tide-day than the 9th.

We're always delighted whenever someone splashes in here. Almost any time of day works, even if the tide is very low. Just give us a heads-up at 804-543-7110 beforehand, to be sure we'll be home.

If you need to RON, no prob.

=Don & Carol Maxwell

* If you’re coming in a seriously big, deep-draft seaplane, like a PBY (please do!), see the special “Deep Water Anchorage” instructions in the long-winded online invitation: https://amphibflyer.com/

You might also find Extreme Low Water Ops interesting, particularly if you'll be here when the tide is low. It's down below the long-winded online invitation. Or there's this direct link to it: https://amphibflyer.com/2022/03/28/extreme-low-water-ops/

Don, my oldest daughter and her husband just bought a home in Maryland about 80 miles north of you just off the Potomac River, they're after me to fly up so might be headed your way.

Cool, Russ! And there are several SeaReys right in that area.

I'll send you their location Don. Their place is just inside the SFRA for DC so I'm not sure how close
I can get.

See you at the TAJ, Don!

Whoops! The original date was July 9, but that recently became impossible for us, so we're changing it to July 23. I've made the change in the top post on this page, but this reply is in hopes of preventing a surprise on the 9th.

Unfortunately I won’t be back from a trip until the 23rd so I’ll miss the Taj this year.
