Last year''s Georgian Gaggle was great fun! We saw eight aircraft participate, Kevin with Beth and Chuck with Heather brought their LSX SeaRey's north of the border. James and Gloria West again drove their RV up from Texas. The Beach House barbeque again provided a social event for non-flyers as well. Great to see so many Ladies this Gaggle! Check out this super link!: http://searey.us/splash/?News&p=TZDP20002

So here we go again! (Right after Oshkosh.) This will be the tenth Georgian Gaggle! Yes we are flexible on CYEE arrival and departure dates, flexible on what routes we fly and even the weather will be flexible

Yes, the water in the Bone Island lagoon will once again be warm for swimming and drinkable Yes, we will have cars to shuttle you, and a Beach House Barbeque to feed you.

We''ll have tie-downs, hotel accommodation and great restaurants waiting for you. Just say you''re coming!

The Best Western Highland Inn & Conference Centre http://bestwesternmidland.com is the best facility in Midland and only 6 minutes from CYEE, Midland Huronia Airport.

Five "Double Queen" rooms have been pre-booked in my name. The price is excellent, (currently US$78.24.) Once you know you are coming just call the hotel and transfer one of these rooms to your credit card. (You can always later cancel or delay arrival.)

    Hi John,
I mentioned in April that my wife Laura and I will be on a cross Canada tour by motorhome and would like to attend the Gaggle in
August. We plan to leave BC in mid July so we can reach Midland airport by Aug 3. Our Searey is obviously not flying yet; Bob and I
expect to be covering the wings next week, all other smaller flying surfaces have been covered by now.
Looking forward to meeting you again as well as the rest of the Searey group who are just names on the forum to me so far.

Hey, John, do you happen to know if there are any plans to permit US pilots flying under Sport Pilots without an FAA medical certificate to fly in Canada? (I have a current medical, but am considering letting it lapse, as all I'd lose in the States is night flying, which I don't do much any more anyway.)

John Dunlop - Jul 29,2015 Viewers | Reply
No Don, I don't, and I don't expect such a plan until such time as the Light Sport Category is recognised in Canada

Don Maxwell - Jul 29,2015 Viewers | Reply
It'll be even more interesting if the Pilots Bill of Rights Part 2 passes. It will eliminate the 3rd class medical for private pilots flying all single engine airplanes with no more than 5 passengers and a GW of less than 5,000 lbs and less than 250 knots.

Thank you Frank, We've just lost Rob due Weather etc. Today and tomorrow will be windy with showers, so we may get a late start this week. No matter, there will be good food and camaraderie

Got an email from a relative with a cabin In Manitou. He said a boat hulled seaplane like mine had overflown his family cabin
recently and he wondered if we knew them. His description follows: (the bing map shows the cabin)
When we were up there we had a sea plane that looks just like yours fly over. Typically all planes up there are pontoon planes. This
one was also unusual in that it passed over flying west to east. Almost all local planes pass over the house on the N-S axis. Given
the uniqueness of the location you may be able to track down this pilot on a listserve. They flew over the Watson Homestead on
Sat. July 25th (maybe Friday 24th) which is on the Manitou Lake system on the Manitou Straights between the Upper and Lower
Manitou lakes. Might be a good lead for pointers flying in that part of the world..

I will be back up there starting Aug. 29 for a week with Cameron, Carol and Paul.

Cheers, JL

Your relative IS in Ontario, Ken--but is about as far from the Georgian Bay as I am in SE Virginia.

Yeah, I noticed its way, way West of GB. But figured the Canadians might know who is out there.

John, as usual everything went off without a hitch (only casualty was one tailwheel extend cable!). Even the weather cooperated
this year. Thanks for all your hard work to organize. Thanks again for the BBQ at the beach club!

Steve Parsons - Aug 10,2015 Viewers | Reply
Ditto for Tracy and I Dennis. Thanks John for the BBQ, driving our butts around (you too Dennis) and organizing the whole event.
Lots of smiling folks last week. Larry was a little too happy maybe!

The Tenth Georgian Gaggle got started as planned on Monday, August 3rd but weather limited us to three aircraft on a few sightseeing flights. But Lee Coulman arrived in JIB and his co-pilot, Dan Oldridge, in his beautiful red Just Hghlander (unfortunately on wheels.) It was good to have Glen and Laura Clarke with their RV and James and Gloria West from Texas, at the start, to fly in empty seats and enhance our social/dinner events
My photographer, daughter Brittany, didn't show till Tuesday the 4th along with Steve and Tracy Parsons in VMU.

These first photos capture the essence of what a missing boom tube cover and splash shield can do to your extension cable. At the Giant's Tomb Island, Dennis got his tail wheel tied down and he and daughter, Ali, arrived safely back in Midland.

Lunch at the Mueller's European Deli on the Balm Beach Road.
Clockwise from left: Ali, Dennis, Glen, James, Laura, Gloria, Steve, Tracy, and Brittany

So on Wednesday, August 5th we added a 5th aircraft with Larry Woods in his A-24 Viking CGHUL.

Briefing, as usual, was a "ho-hum, zzzz event" in the CYEE terminal lounge. Left to right Dennis, Brit, Stacy, James, Steve, Glen, Laura, Gloria, Larry Woods and Lee Coulman.

The water is very high this summer on Georgian Bay. The favorite Bone island picnic beach is underwater, so we used the Giant's Tomb where the beach was excellent. (I'm missing some good Wednesday photos. If the Gagglers would send me some, I'll insert them.... But none of those little low-res postage stamps Lee! )

Kevin and Beth D'Angelo arrived in 9KD just before the traditional Wasaga Beach (Beach House) Barbecue. I have inserted Kevin's beautiful Toronto harbour photo taken on his way from Buffalo. Kevin's camera also provided the Barbeque group shot (taken by my better half, Ellen).
Left to right (back): James, John D, Larry, Dan Oldridge, Tracy, Steve, Dennis, Lee, Kevin, Laura, Glen
(front) Gloria, Beth, Brit..
(The other photos do show Ellen working in the kitchen. )

Thursday, August 6th dawned sunny and calm! What a great day it was! Dave Rivett in his Savannah CIDPN on floats and Carlo Chemello in CFEUD arrived just in time for the traditional trip to Killarney for lunch. We had eight aircraft! Kevin took these ramp photos before departure. Then it was across southern Georgian Bay in two flights of four to the Bruce peninsula at Cape Croker. The Escarpment with its pristine rocky beaches and caves led us to Flower Pot Island north of Tobermory.

Up the ramp at Killarney Mountain Lodge.. That's James with Larry and Gloria with Dennis. Steve and Tracy in the White, VMU lead a water formation waiting for the ramp.

Hey, Dan Oldridge with Lee spots a snake! (Was it a Massasauga Rattler? I think so)
Finally Kevin in "Jaws" further terrifies the crowd of onlookers.

A Full Table in the Lodge. New faces on the right, Dave Rivett third from top, and Carlo Chemello nearest the camera. Killarney Mountain Lodge is under new management and we were impressed with their new cuisine..

So lunch was great, and we had time to chat with guests while the fleet filled their gas cans at the marina.

Regretfully, Brittany had to get back to Toronto and so I kinda pushed the fleet to expedite back down the east side of Georgian Bay leaving much of the Thirty Thousand Islands unexplored. Kevin came alongside for a photo and we agreed to find a "Kevin rock" for lunch tomorrow (the last day.)

Friday August 7th, five us in search of "Kevin's Rock" Dennis and Ali (and my Brittany) were gone! So were Larry, plus Steve and Tracy. We really had not planned any flying for the "go home day" of the Gaggle but what another nice day it was! Lunch was good, the water warm enough for a swim, and Kevin showed us another use for the foredeck!

Another Gaggle in the Books. The photo is post Gaggle, taken by Dennis as we headed home from another beautiful August late afternoon of flying. The photo reminds me of how privileged I am to be able to enjoy this little northern paradise with good friends and family Thank you guys, for once again, making my summer...

Another great Gaggle. Appreciate the photos of things that I missed.
It was a good thing that my windscreen was covered with water as I came up the ramp. I probably would have reversed my charge
after seeing a rattlesnake!

Fantastic, John! And great pictures too.

Careful study of the swimming photos, however, shows there are grimaces on the faces of the victims (participants)! Don't think for a minute I'm falling for that line about "warm" water!

I do miss your briefings, though.
