Description: Sky Park was like an episode of the Twilight Zone. 'where is everybody'? I could have sworn I saw tumbled weeds rolling across the runway on our rollout.

As we hiked down the road to the locked gate by the highway, we cheered as the taxi pulled up right as we arrived. 'Cool, good idea calling ahead for the taxi Col'.

'I didn't call the taxi, I thought you did'? Whatever, don't cut your eyes at good fortune right? The cabby was shaking his head, 'I can't believe you guys just landed at a CLOSED airport'.

'What'? Looking back at the gate there was a for sale sign.

'Yep, is been closed for 2 years now... last I heard the place was bulldozed after they found the owner, old man Hatcher, dead in the hanger. He loved that airport and never wanted his kids to sell it off to the developers. But thats just what they're trying to do.'

do-de-doodo do-de-doodo...

'Well its not bulldozed, we just landed there'

'Whatever you say pal, whatever you say'

do-de-doodo do-de-doodo...

Question: how should one know that an airport is closed when its still on the current sectional and the runway is not X'ed out?... or was that even an airport at all. Was the fog real now that we stand on the ground with clear blue above... had we just entered the Twilight Zone...

The cabby confirmed that we were crazy by asking for and recieving $21 dollars plus tip for the 3 mile ride to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. Maybe we just didn't want him to call the cops and have a hub lock attached to the Buc when we returned... to the Twilight Zone...

Bret, Last I knew, I thought it was last year, Rhinebeck started a shuttle service for pilots flying into Sky Park. Guess not any more.

Did you talk to the Rhinebeck folks about this? What are they going to do now that Sky Park is closed? Will they allow pilots to fly directly in to Rhinebeck?

Did you hear anything about a fatality and possible shut down of the Rhinebeck operation? This was brought up at the last meeting of our local flying club. The scuttlebut is that there is a huge law suit pending against them.

Mark, you are messing-up a perfectly good tale with legitimate questions

Sky Park is no longer listed on Old Rhinebecks website and the cabby said that they are now running cabs from Kingston airport (which was right on the river and totally covered in fog). The 'shuttle' doesn't run anymore but the cab ride from Kingston is supplimented by the Aerodrome. Its $11 a car load for the 6 mile trip.... campared to $21 for our 3 mile trip. I still say we were in the Twilight Zone.

Answer to Question: 'Check Notams.' Of course I'm sure Steve did and there's nothing on file. It seems you did indeed fly into the Twilight Zone, Bret. That happens to me a lot when flying with the Colonel.

Bret, sorry about that, I have a tendency to do that. I'm the original thread killer with my serious questions and comments. I think I'm part Vulcan.

Mark, I thought you might be interested to know that during the show at Rhinebeck they talked about your 'virtual dog flighting group' that was there last week and said that they did a demostration of how to fly WWI aircraft on the internet.

They said that anybody wanting more information about barnstorming on the web, to see Rhinebeck personel.

So what is your group all about?
