Description: Don and I met about 7 years ago at the first Garner's Landing gathering. That was the last time I had seen him but thanks to this internet stuff it doesn't seem like it. We were both wide-eyed prospective buyers then. Even though we all feel like we know each other out here in cyberspace, it sure is nice to cross paths every once in awhile.

This photo and the description were posted in 2005 by Bret Smith--not Hal Brown, who took this photo. Friends of Hal's lived on Sabbatia Pond, in Massachusetts. I landed and Hal got out, then I took off, joined up with Bret, and helped him find the lake. We landed one-two, and Hal got this photo. No one knows how Hal's name replaced Bret's in the "Posted By" line, but it happened during the Great Migration from the old MyFamily version of Splash & Dash. MyFamily closed their server, and when their engineers couldn't figure out how to save the hundreds--or thousands--of sites they had been hosting, SeaRey Don White duplicated their structures in a different programming language. He now hosts hundreds (thousands?) of sites like this one on his GoClub server, many of them also from MyFamily. But not even Don could figure out a way to reconnect photos that were linked more than about two levels down from the initial page. So they're orphaned--lost in the depths of the site, occasionally to surface by chance, as these photos did.

Unfortunately, Bret Smith died a few years later in (apparently) a base-to-final stall over a lake in Tennessee. That's when we started getting really serious about developing the Searey mantra, POP WUFF 70 WOW! (Power Out on takeoff--Push. Wheels Up For Flying. Faster than 70 mph essentially prevents accelerated stalls. Watch Out for Wires.)

You can find Bret's story over on STS, if you're a member (and if you have a Searety you should be; it's the Searey Technical Site, THE place for SeaRey technical and flight safety info).

Russ, the original post on this page was by Bret Smith. But Hal took the photo and his name somehow magically in the "Posted By" line during the Great Migration from MyFamily.

I remember this photo Don. Did you liver near her where this was taken?

We live in Virginia, Russ. Both photos were taken on a pond in Massachusetts.
