    Fred, do you have any advice on how to tell from the air if a sandy beach is suitable for landing on? I've passed up a lot of beautiful Atlantic beaches from fear of getting stuck.

    Make sure it is low tide in the area your going to land in and land as close to the breaking waves as you can. It usually is quite a bit darker than the soft dried sand higher up the beach. Even try a touch and go if your not sure about it hardness. If you can see a car anywhere on the beach you should be good.

    Thanks! I've noticed that salt water beaches usually seem firmer underfoot than fresh water ones--probably because the salt keeps them more damp.
