Description:
The jungle stream opened to the SeaRey as I approached the old broken boat.
The tale of Heather’s Lace was just too juicy to ignore. I had to get aboard the wreck.
The wood was rotten and a pungent odor from the swamp permeated the whole boat. I carefully stepped from the SeaRey onto the creaking, moss encrusted gray planks.
Gazing into the black hole of the old cabin I saw sagging timbers. Through cracks in a small cabinet, I spotted a white jewelry box.
Lying on top of the cabin, I reached down into the hatch. A sudden stirring made me jerk back. A moccasin slithered off a shelf and into the black water.
More careful this time, I reached down and pried away the rotten wood. I retrieved the box.
I carefully opened the old chest. Inside was a lacy white silk gown. Unfolding the old gown, I found a bundled package with an envelope attached.
I opened the envelope and read, “On your advice, my dearest Herbert, I invested your gifts of money into stocks and bonds. Now that I have found true love I have no need for any other wealth. I am returning the bounty of your love to you. May your life some day be as blessed as mine is now. Respectfully, Heather.”
Carefully unwrapping the paper bundle, I found a stack of stock certificates. Each one was marked with the corporate symbol of General Motors.
There, wrapped in lace, had been Herb’s salvation. If only he had bothered to look…..
Well, if he had looked, there might have been a different ending to this wet tale.

Dan<br />I'm thinking that water moccasin actually bit you, and the benign part of venom is speaking. Great story, but how did that jewelry box grow big enough to contain a gown and stocks?

Have you seen Ann's jewelry box? I think she could put Zach in it.

Surely Ann's jewelry box is not empty enough to put Zach in it......

Oh Dan !! Large family jewels are keepsakes to be passed on to the future generations.
