Ops in a Manatee area? In Lee County we can't even boat in Manatee areas.<br /><br />(Gorgeous picture.)

It is gorgeous! (Probably not too likely that a SeaRey prop will slice a manatee.)

The photo is off their website, and the green stuff on land is lawn with the water grass in the water. Dan Nickens can probably give you a scientic name of it as he has waded to shore through it.

John you have discovered one of Florida's 'secrets'<br />Deleon Springs is a very special and beautiful secluded spot. The springs is normally <br />off the normal tourist beat. You can swim in a crystal clear spring, very refreshing mid summer. If you fly in early enough you can actually cook your own pancakes on your own table. Bill Furr, Jeff Holbrook and I sampled their fare, a few months back, excellent food! It was quite nice. The water was ICE Cold!

That's not very far from my farm in Grand Ridge, John. Have you landed in Compass Lake yet? My sister has a place there, and there is a restaurant on the lake. We'll have to rendevous before you head back west.

They used to have the honor system instead of a bill. You tell the cashier what you ordered. That was a few years ago. Do they still do that?

'What we have here is a failure to communicate,' he said.<br /><br />That is because there are so many springs (more than 700) in Florida that the names get a bit confusing. 'De Leon' Spring is about six miles north of Deland in central Florida (Volusia County). That is the one with the Old Spanish Sugar Mill restaurant and the yuckyweedonus beaching spot. 'Ponce de Leon' Spring is a half mile south of the town of Ponce de Leon in northwest Florida (Holmes County), about 40 air miles west of Compass Lake. To make matters more confusing, the Florida Geological Survey refers to both springs as 'Ponce De Leon Spring' (FGS Bul. 31, 1972).      Attachments:

Would you repeat that? ..... Well the good news is, we can fly to that DeLeon Spring as well! Although, I do know where the key to my sisters house on Compass Lake is. I always wanted to be a 'Gypsie in the Palace', so here's our chance! When are you going to be back at 'Ponce de Leon Spring' area John?

Wednesday 27 Dec will be a springs, lake and river tour day with a flyover of 'Ponce de Leon Springs', along with some others, lunch at the Compass Lake restaurant and a tour down the Apalachicola River and back up the coast to Panama City...subject to suitable Searey weather. Flight planning in progress - Depart DeFuniak Springs (54J) at 1030L to Vortex Blue Spring, Ponce de Leon Spring, Morrison Spring, Pate Lake SPB, Beckton &amp; Cypress Springs and Springboard &amp; Black Springs then Compass Lake for lunch. After lunch Blue Hole Spring followed by a landing at Marianna (MAI) ( as it used to be an old Army/Air Force base I wanted to look around) then Blue Springs to Lake Seminole and south flying down the Apalachicola river to the Gulf. Then fly west along Cape San Blas north up the St. Joe Penninsula and the coastline to Panama City Beach and return to 54J.

Since I'm reading this post on the morning of 12/27, I guess I won't be making this one. Have a blast, it looks like a great day. I was planning on flying over this weekend, however current forecast calls for some sloppy weather. You are close enough to my property to overfly on the way to the Apalachicola. Runway clearing is 1/2 done, (1300'), but hopefully next year for the next 1300' (as soon as the trees are ready for harvesting). I envy you! Have fun!
