Description: Matt's Aventura. One thing I really like about the Aventura over the Searey is a huge baggage area with wide open access. Also check out the head room!

Wow, Jeff, what an interesting pair of photos (for discussion on STS)! (I have a bunch more coming...)

Hey Don, the Aventura people wanted $15 for the hat, $20 for the T shirt, $50 for the test flight.
They did not treat me politely for someone at a high personal cost came to check them out and I had the bucks in my pocket to do the deal.
When I visited them they seemed disorganized and not very friendly.

Now at PA I got the hat, shirt and flight (Kerry's flying airboat ride) for free to boot with a free lunch.
I felt the PA people were helpful and the Aventura people not… the rest is history.

The Can. dollar was worth 42% less then too. Hell the stuff was free at PA... hummmm was that why I went with SeaRey... LoL the free hat…LoL

Same experience here, Frank, several years ago at the lake while at Sun & Fun. Got a free demo ride in a SeaRey (I think it was Kerry).... later, got a ride in an Aventura but didn't know about the $40 charge until we were in the air. Was NOT impressed. Decision was easy.

I had a similar experience at the first Sebring Sport Pilot event. My contact with Aventura confirmed that I would not do business with them. I am now waiting for my Searey kit to arrive.

I had demo rides in both airplanes and went for the SeaRey--but now that I've flown with Matt a good bit, I've come to appreciate the Aventura. It has a lot more room in the cabin, especially in bags, the huge hatch in the foredeck is very useful, and the manual gear retraction system seems simple and rugged. On the other hand, I like the SeaRey's sliding canopies better than doors and the Stitts wings better than the socks and battens. (It's a whole lot easier to build the Aventura's wings, however!) Otherwise, they're very similar. PA's customer support is excellent, but the new owners of Aventura seem to be trying hard to improve both the airplane and the support. (Technical comparisons of Aventura and SeaRey are on STS.)

    look at that bending elevator...

It has a trim tab on the elevator, Brett. The stab is fixed.

This is my airplane. I agree with the comments on the customer service. The owner of the company, Bob Boswell is a great guy but Way unorganized. His wife Sandy, who is in the front office and answers the phone, is a real pill. She does not want to be there. I think she did not expect to spend their retirement this way. I almost died in this Aventura a couple of times because of faulty advice on the Rotax engine from Aventura. (long story). They seem to know the engine better now.
Every Aventura owner I know is frustrated with the factory. We end up helping each other and I have had great help from Searey guys.

I bought this plane without even knowing about the Searey. I saw it on the web and bought the factory demo without even a test ride.

I agree with Don on the comparison. If I was to pick between the two today I would most likely pick the Searey. But if I was building one I would pick the Aventura.( I don't have the patience to build the Searey.

The Aventura is slower than the Searey. I like the sliding canopy on the Searey but I do love flying with my doors off. It handles great on the water and will not flip over on a wheels down landing on the water.

Matt, is there a dedicated Aventura website?

If not the Adventura guys should consider setting up a MyFamily website, this would be a great venue for them. You could have one login for all the sites.
If they invited the some of the SeaRey enthusiasts the data exchange would be very interesting, count me in if they do.

It would address some of the comments we received on the STS to include the Adventura on the site.
On STS the focus is only SeaRey’s as it might cause confusion to have other aircraft. We did start a category on the site for comparison of these fine aircraft as Don said.

STS website membership requires ownership of a SeaRey kit or aircraft to be verified by a serial number with special exception to those individuals that have originally contributed to SeaRey improvement.

Amusing to see others have had the same experience at the Aventura factory as I did. At PA Kerry’s a natural PR kind of guy and smooth about it.
Frank,
The their are far less Aventuras than Seareys. Their is no real connecting web site for us except a Yahoo groups one that nobody uses anymore. I am in contact with a few guys but I talk about seaplane stuff allot with Don Maxwell. We live near each other and fly together often. As he has said 'I have to throttle back'.

The planes are so similar. The factory is getting a little better at customer support but still is a little unorganized if you ask me.

Anyway, I am glad to know the Searay guys and just enjoy flying off the water.
