Description: One more--Tommy Crump towing Jeff Arnold aloft. Tommy's a good guy, and anyway, I love this photo. He might not like it, but the intensity of his expression and the way his hair is streaming like the wake and the slightly skewed composition all came out pretty well.

That is a great shot, Don! (Splashing and dashing to boot!)

(Where does that expression come from? 'to boot?' Must be an English thing. Certainly gotta expect an English prof to know!)

    The American Heritage Dictionary says:

boot 2 (bōōt)
intr.v. boot·ed, boot·ing, boots
To be of help or advantage; avail.

1. Chiefly Southern & Midland U.S. See lagniappe.
2. Archaic Advantage; avail.

[Middle English boten, to be of help, from Old English bōtian, from bōt, help; see bhad- in Indo-European roots.]

Probably related to a word that is still in active use in Norwegian: 'å bøte' (Hope the 'å' and 'ø' comes out right on your PCs, the 'å' is the infinitive prefix like english 'to'). It means to mend, as in mending fishing nets or sails or clothes - a patch in your pants is a 'bot'. The 'ø' is pronounced like the 'i' in 'Sir'.

Frank Noordhuis - Try telling Tommy that hang gliding is a 'Young guys sport'. I can see him laughing and shaking his head
