Description:
Langley people get to play with the niftiest new tools. These are some models for wind tunnel testing that were produced on 3-D printers. The printers are driven by CAD programs and work like inkjet printers, depositing plastic in thin layers, one on top of another, until the 3D form is complete. There were also displays of electrostatic build-up models and water-cut pieces.

At Midlands Technical College in Columbia, SC, I saw a machine that made this kind of thing. One item I handled was of a cresent wrench. It actually worked - the little screw adjustment and everything. Don't ask me how! I was amazed.

My dentist has a 3D cutting machine that I watched cut out a cap for me in <br />less then 15 min. It is a permanent cap and fit the first try.

This stuff is cool! I love machines and technology! When Joe dentist or Jane homebuilder has the power to machine parts with the same quality as NASA and at a price anyman can afford, the power it brings to the regular person... Sort of like the internet.
