Description:
It was the perfect day for a prudent pilot to cover his head with a pillow and stay in bed. Wind whipped whitecaps across the lakes. Skies were completely overcast. Thunderstorms rose up out of the south and moved northward as if on rigid tracks. Fog lay low over much of the land.
Of course the briefer had to say, “VFR (visual) flight is not recommended.” They always say that when there is a cloud somewhere in the sky. This briefer, however, had a radar picture to prove that storms were marching my way. Further, there was a big swatch of territory blanketed by low clouds that weren’t moving until the thunderstorms arrived.
“How about tomorrow?”
“Worse. The whole week ahead looks bad.”
I could see from the radar that there was an open path for a quick departure. Further, just to the north, there was a report of clouds, but no fog. Further to the west, skies were reported clear.
“Gottagetouttahere-itis” took hold. I made a run for the coast.

Dan - just remember you always have a hiding place North of Tampa when you need an 'out'.
