Description: The e-mail from Diego said that McAllen was actually closer than Laredo. He’d meet me at noon.

Dern! I had wanted to depart from Laredo. That’s the ticket I had, but it was exchangeable.

The problem is that I wasn’t done flying. I had to look for an excuse.

“Wait! Diego wanted a short demonstration of landing the airplane on water. I guess I better find some water!” Oh, the powers of rationalization.

The chart showed some small lakes to the north. I headed that direction and found Sal del Rey (Salt of the King?). What could be better for splashing a SeaRey!

As suggested by its name, however, the lake was surrounded by salt deposits. Not a good sign. It also had a pipeline running right down the middle of the shallow lake. To make matters worse, someone was working on a pump at one end of the lake. I decided it would be better not to make waves.
