Description: C-FPTQ was rolled out today for the first time (and then promptly rolled back in before she sank in the mud!)

As you can see, she rather “shows the leaf” for the Georgian Air Force! First flight when things firm up..

John, shouldn't you have put the wing paint on the right hand side to balance the pilot weight?

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 08,2008   Viewers  | Reply
    Oops!

Kenneth Leonard - Apr 08,2008   Viewers  | Reply

Sweet. I hope it flies as good as it looks!

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 08,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Thanks guys! About a year overdue and the paintwork is not as good as C-GJIB but it will be great to get splashing again!<br />Jon, the engine had to be run up for the MD-RA inspector. Today the ground was so soft (perhaps you can see the boards in the middle photo) that I had to run the engine just to get her back in the hangar. (Yeah Dennis!)<br />Then I noticed a coolant leak from the rad! Back to pulling things apart tomorrow..

Dennis Vogan - Apr 08,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Well at least the ground isn't white anymore!<br /><br />The plane sure looks good unwrapped and in the sunlight John.

    WOW very nice

John:<br />Your SeaRey is a beauty but can you tell me about the hangar? It looks like one that<br />would be fairley reasonable to build?

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
    Burt, it's a Calhoun 'Super Structure'. Here is the link:<br /><a href="http://www.calhounsuperstructure.com/index.php">http://www.calhounsuperstructure.com/index.php</a><br />Here is a Florida link to a similar structure:<br /><a href="http://www.fabricstructures-usa.com/gallery-aviation.html">http://www.fabricstructures-usa.com/gallery-aviation.html</a>

Hey, John, that looks so nice I can't even think of any way to rag you about it. Well done!

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Don, guess you'll have to wait till the Gaggle when you can see her up close!

Steve Gromak - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
John, does it really go faster building the second one or is the list of things you'd like to change or do differently off set the gains from familiarity from building it the first time? Great looking plane John, however you should have been a little more careful painting ...it must have been last fall by the looks of those red leaves stuck in the paint : )

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Steve, I really did think it would go faster and perhaps for some things it did.<br />Unfortunately building 6 miles away on a dirt floor in an unheated hangar with only a generator for power was a mistake. Give me a heated attached garage any day!<br /><br />As to the darn leaves, they at least cover some of the bugs!<br />

Very nice John. Are those old registration marks, going back to the P series?

Dave Lima - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
John, looks great ( I have already seen it many times just not in the bright sunshine) my runway is dry, so get it flying and come on over.

Dave Lima - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
John, why don't you show everyone the interior of this plane, it's as nice as it gets!

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Thank you Dave. I did post an early photo of the interior on STS but I'll take another photo for S&D..<p><img src="inline/20070-C_FPTQ_Cockpit.jpg" alt="C-FPTQ_Cockpit"><!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->      Attachments:

Looks great John -- The 'Leaf' is an excellent replacement for those blue sperm! Eager to see her fly. The Finger Lakes would welcome her anytime!

Bruno Grondin - Apr 10,2008   Viewers  | Reply
John, your letters are bluish so they are difficult to read at a certain distance is it because you want to fly incognito under some circunstances...? hehehe<br /><br />Tres beau John.

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 10,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Sperm!! What is Lee going to say?! (Trust a doctor!)

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 10,2008   Viewers  | Reply
    Yeah, especially at night &lt;g&gt;

Lee Coulman - Apr 12,2008   Viewers  | Reply
I don't try to thing of sperm, but I'm sure the GJIB has ejaculated a few times from the runway when the load is light.<br /><br />Don't believe Dave about his DRY runway. I flew over it on Thursday and there were a few wet spots. No, JIB didn't leave it.<br /><br />My runway on the other has white stuff and wet stuff. Again, not left by JIB.<br />      Attachments:

She looks awesome John, and I bet it'll fly the same. Glad the big thaw finally happened, now for the dry out!

Randy Wilder - Apr 11,2008   Viewers  | Reply
She really looks impressive, John. You'll have to bring her down for next year's SnF.

Robert Loneragan - Apr 12,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Congrats JD .... at last I can now see the artwork you have been working so hard on for the last 2 years. A real stunner. Well done John.

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 12,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Thanks Rob, Randy.Frank and everyone else! <br />I might have to keep her up north till they get those F16's under control.<br />Maybe I'll send Lima across first and I’ll just hide in the dust! LOL<br />

Kenneth Leonard - Apr 13,2008   Viewers  | Reply
John - what did the F-16s do? I must have missed something.

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 13,2008   Viewers  | Reply
I recently read about a case still under investigation about some 'practice' intercepts on two aircraft that had one taking collision avoidance!

Larry Woods - Apr 13,2008   Viewers  | Reply
    Hi John:<br /><br />Gorgeous!!!<br /><br />Have you got 'flight authority' yet?<br /><br />Can't wait to see it airborne.<br /><br />Best,<br />Larry

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 13,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Yes Larry, just waiting for the field to dry out. Maybe this week..

John,<br /><br />That is one very impressive Searey! Love that panel.

John Robert Dunlop - Apr 19,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Thank you Chet, B&#229;rd and Robert!<br />I am just now getting used to the Dynon and AvMap. Interesting how long the adjustment to new technology takes when you are retired! (Well now for some that isn't really true is it? I need Don Maxwell in the right seat!)<br />I might suggest that the panel is ergonomic and elegant by its simplicity but that would belie the fact that the Dynon and AvMap are connected by a serial cable and one has six buttons and the other ten!

Tony Gugliuzza - May 08,2008   Viewers  | Reply
Congratulations, John!<br />I love the panel.<br /><br />Do you find the radio cumbersome to reach if you are frequently changing frequencies?<br />

John Robert Dunlop - May 09,2008   Viewers  | Reply
No not at all Tony. Compared to the small display and knobs etc. on the Microairs (which were on the centerline in C-GJIB) I think the larger display and controls are easier to use (ICOM and NARCO) even though they are offset..<br />But I have not had to reach across in front of a passenger yet!<br />My MP3 player is in the far panel wing. I can reach that and the passenger's sliding canopy handle but it is a stretch..
