That's pretty cool Eric! How about a close up of the tailwheel assembly? I can't wait to see it fly!

Do you need a third class medical to fly that baby?

Eric Batterman - May 04,2011 Viewers | Reply
No, but my heart rate will be much faster on its first flight, compared to flying N14EP Sr.

Don Maxwell - May 04,2011 Viewers | Reply
No worry, Eric! At 1/10 scale, your heart rate should be something like 600 pitty pats a minute.

Does it have breakaway mini-Bimini fittings for the float jury struts?

    Silly question. Attachments:

    ERIC
DID YOU DRAW UP LINES DRAWING FOR THE MODEL? hOW ELSE DID YOU BUILD IN SCALE? SORRY ABOUT 'YELLING', couldnt be bothered to go back and turn off CAPS. If you did lines drawings (lofting plans) is it possible to pay for a copy.
I am itching to get into R/C Searey.

Eric Batterman - May 04,2011 Viewers | Reply
Jim, I did measure and draw up partial plans, sort of. Some by CAD, some by hand, some just in my head. However, nothing nearly complete or organized enough for one to build from.

Great job Eric. You need a photo of Jr. & Sr. together--at least on the ground.

N14EP Jr has flown, but I'm about done trying to tweak it. Adjusted thrust angles, and moved battery all the way forward, added additional nose weight (ie move cg forward), etc etc, but it is still very unstable (mostly in pitch). It is fast. Step taxis are a blast, but all hell breaks loose when it breaks the surface. At least it doesn't snap roll on takeoff anymore. It does float high and dry (except for the motor) upside down on the foam wing. I'm a reasonably experienced RC builder/flyer (darn near wore out my old seamaster 40) and this one ain't fun to fly - especially since it's so pretty - and I want to keep it that way. Maybe the next one should be at least 50% bigger to help get wing loading down. Great Planes does have a nice ARF Catalina.... Attachments:

Sorry to hear that Eric, I was looking forward to building one too.

FWIW, GP will have another seaplane coming out very soon, but I can't say more. It's not an Icon.
