Description:
The restricted area around the Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center had to be circumnavigated to get to Lake Greenwood. The munitions bunkers and stalin-gray buildings nearby were enough to discourage any water landing. Further north, however, was a less intimidating pond with a nice spray field.

I tried really hard to get permission to land there. They have a campground with cabins on the lake for employees. The only answer to a civilian (even an ex-GI) was, 'Nope.'

Hah! That's R-3404, Jeff. Have a look at this NPRM:<br /><br />'SUMMARY: This action proposes to modify Restricted Area 3404 (R-3404) at Crane, IN. The United States (U.S.) Navy requests that the FAA take action to modify R-3404 for the protection of nonparticipating aircraft from fragments generated during the disposal of a variety of types of ordnance.'
