Description:
While exploring the sandbar I came across some strange tracks. One set was broad, 3’ wide, with scratched and brushed lines stretching across the sand. The second set was only 6” wide and snaked across the otherwise smooth sand.
I had no idea about the wider track, but the smaller one reminded me of a snake trail. A really, really big snake track. Maybe a sidewinder. “Or a giant anaconda out in the middle of the desert?”
That didn’t make sense, but it still caused me to exercise a bit of caution while following the tracks to the top of the river bank. There the tracks were joined by claw prints. “Curiouser and curiouser,” I mumbled. Had a raccoon run afoul of the anaconda?
Just up the bank was a freshly gnawed bush. There was no anaconda in sight (I looked). It’s a good thing no one was hiding in the bushes, ready to jump out and yell “boo!”
Finally it dawned on me: “Whew! A beaver. He cut down a bush and pulled it down the water hoping to dam the river. Talk about your high hopes. Reminds me of a song….”
“OH NO! Don’t even start!”
But it was too late….the singing had already started:
(Singing loudly)
“Next time your found, with your chin on the ground There a lot to be learned, so look around….
Once there was a silly ol’beaver Thought he’d build a big ol’dam Nothing'd make that beaver scram He kept building that dam
Cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes
So any time your feelin bad stead of feelin sad Just remember that beaver Hey there’s another billion kilowatt dam… Hey here comes a billion kilowatt dam.”

I feel your pain, Tony, because I still haven't gotten rid of it. I had to download it onto the iPod. I figure about the 500th playing and I'll be done for the next twenty years.
