Description: Not far from Little Rock, Arkansas and Peli’s date was Lake Maumelle. It is the source for the city’s drinking water.

“What’s with all the French names?”

“The area was explored by the French.”

“Yeah, but the Spanish were here first. Desoto was here in 1541.”

“But the French explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de la Harpe was here in 1722. He marked the transition from the Mississippi River valley to the Ouachita Mountains by a little rock in the river, ‘la petite roche’, or Little Rock.”

“Desoto was here first so it should be ‘la piedra pequeña’.”

“Not really. If you want to go by who got here first is should be ‘eletvpeske okholatte’.

“You made that up.”

“Call it what you want. Nobody’s listening anyway.”

“In that case, I’ll just call it ‘Bill’s Backyard’ because we aren’t far from Bill Canino’s SeaRey Superstore!”
