Description: “Look at that: an old but OK Corral!”

“What I’m looking at is the way those bushes in the corral are being blown over by the wind.”

“Yeah, well, that’s why they call it a ‘hurricane’.”

“Instead of looking at the corral, you better be looking at the fuel.”

“I’ve looked at the fuel. It’s fine.”

“It looks like we’ll be at minimal fuel when we get home.”

“Yeah, the GPS shows 45 minutes to home. The sight tube shows 9 gallons of fuel. That gives us at least thirty minutes reserve. It’s legal.”

“It may be legal, but it is definitely into the uncomfortable range. This isn’t your airplane. How do you know the fuel reads right?”

“Because I’ve flown Peli for six days and almost fifty hours. I’ve checked the visual gage against the required fuel at every stop. The calibration is dead on accurate.”

“’Dead on’ is not exactly reassuring. Why not stop at Dunellon and take on some extra fuel?”

“You can see the radar. There is a squall line approaching Lake Harris. If we don’t get there quick we’ll be stuck until it passes over.”

“So what? It’s moving fast. We won’t be stuck long.”

“Peli has had too much leaded fuel and I don’t want to leave him out in a squall. Chill. There’s plenty of fuel.”

“I hope you’re right because we’re right over the cheapest av-gas in the state.”
