is that the old manual gear? What hull is that? Would the manual gear work with a C hull?

Jeff Arnold - Jun 17,2009   Viewers  | Reply
Daniel, it is a C hull. You can tell by the deep chine in the front. The gear is A Hydraulic and I am VERY happy with it. I have had very little trouble with the gear over nearly 7 years of flying it. And yes, you can have manual gear with a C hull. In fact, I believe that is the standard configuraiton of the LSX

Good to know...I SHOULD be getting a searey up in illinois and bringing it back to orlando. It is in mint condition but has an A hull. I will be swapping for a C hull, but I know the C has a deeper 'V' and wasnt sure if there would be enough clearance with the A gear. In fact, I would rather have a manual gear...its lighter and I dont really care too much about luxuries. Thanks for the help Jeff.<br />Daniel

Daniel, you'll probably want to install the longer gear legs..

Daniel Paul Myers - Jun 17,2009   Viewers  | Reply
How much clearance would there be without the longer legs?

Don Maxwell - Jun 17,2009   Viewers  | Reply
Daniel, there's about 5 inches clearance on mine--C hull and A legs. I've never scrubbed the step on anything (on land).

you can always get a keep guard too?

Kenneth Leonard - Jun 17,2009   Viewers  | Reply
The keel guard is relatively easy to install, cost me something like $120, looks ok and does a very good job of protecting the hull from damage when beaching or if you scrape shells in shallow water. It does add a few pounds though. I'm guessing 4-5 lbs. I'm happy with mine.

Jeff, is that lovely cocktail waitress your wife?

No! That is my sister. Unknown to me, she flew in from San Francisco for my surprise 50th birthday party. She had just walked up to the plane and handed me a beer. I was totally blown away!!

What a great family to be there for you in your time of need, Jeff! Congratulations on passing the half century mark in style!
