Yeah--but they don't know how to plow roads. I took that picture after trudging out to the road this morning, hoping to find the newspaper. No luck.

Dennis, I read a very interesting account by Magellan about the aboriginals of Tierra del Fuego in which he marveled at how they were able to go about in the worst winter weather barefoot and with almost no clothing. He supposed that they just were used to the conditions. So I decided to try it, myself. And you know what? Those Tierra del Fuegons were freeking nuts. Or Magellan was. Nevertheless, I've found by experiment that the feet can become accustomed to being cold and to tromping around in snow for quite a while before they freeze solid. They don't hurt much and they recover quickly.

Chilblains, on the other hand--well, Dickens evidently knew about them. We had chilblains all winter in China, from the feet being just a bit too cold and damp for long periods. It's the long periods that get them. The toes get red and swell up. They burn like crazy and sometimes they ache. Sometimes they itch. My toes did that every winter for about five years after we came back to the States.

For once you are possibly going to have more snow than me for Christmas!

Not likely, John. The forecast is for highs in the 40s by Monday or Tuesday, so there probably won't be much of the white stuff left by Friday. It's lovely now, though. This was the greatest December snowfall here since 1908.

Ya' know Don, I was listening to my Panama music while shoveling - didn't help, but my feet were warm and dry (I own boots).

Sorry Don, it looks more like a foot in the snow, than a foot a snow.
Come up here and I'll show you the difference.

Aw, you're onto me, Lee. I actually measured it as 10 inches in most places.
