Description: These pilings are left over from who knows what--maybe dating back to when Grant's supply depot was at City Point (visible just to the right of those white buildings ahead of the wing) near the end of the Civil War.

The tide was high and going out, and it appeared that the pilings slowed the current enough for the mud to settle downstream from them.
