Description: Bald eagles! Bald eagles were down to about thirty pairs in Virginia shortly after Rachel Carson published SILENT SPRING. Prohibiting the use of DDT has allowed them to proliferate again, and now I see several almost every time I fly along the river. There are almost as many eagles as osprey.

This pair were watching the big white and blue waterbird, but they didn't seem the least bit worried about it.

    Your plane looked 'Nice, but nubbly' (as Kipling's stut-fish said to whale of the shipwrecked mariner)
And I'm even sure you are a man of 'infinite resource and sagacity'... so they won't eat you.

    From Florida to Canada! I thought eagles were territorial, but evidently that's not so. Here's a GPS track of one (called Citrus) that has visited Russ Garner and Bruno Grondin: http://www.wildlifetracking.org/index.shtml?tag_id=74375&big
a=1

More eagle tracks at: http://www.wildlifetracking.org/?project_id=349
