Looks super Larry. Keep track of your hours. I'm really impressed with the A-24 design quality!

You better be quick, mate...summer is well underway! But, if you can't get it done with all your other projects, plan on flying it down to Florida next fall. The Catherders are looking for a few good flyers to cover for recent defections.

Hi John:<br /><br /> That I am doing for sure.<br />So far, there have been no negative surprises relating to the kit. There were a couple of rather humorous time consumers relating to the Rotax.... had to relocate some of the oil return fittings as they were perfectly aimed at the arms of the standard Rotax engine mount. (g) <br /><br />What really impresses me is the quality of every item in the kit. I also love the fact that most of the holes are pilot drilled for the builder. As we both know, one can spend a great deal of time accurately locating and then drilling the holes for the many items that must be installed on a kit aircraft. Most of this is already accomplished in the A-24 quick-build kit.<br /><br />By the way, there were a couple of surprises in the new kit when it arrived. Following my experiences with my first A-24, I asked to factory to conside two changes,..... larger seats (for our larger North American butts) and slightly better mechanical leverage in the brake pedals. To my delight, both had been accomplished and were included.<br /><br />Hi Dan. I hope to take it down in the fall, <br /><br />Best,<br />Larry <br />I hope to finish it before summer ends. <br /><br />

Is the Searey community shooting itself in the foot by requiring no technical discussions about the Searey on the splash and dash site but 'encouraging' what effectively has become an A-24 sales interest thread? Don't get me wrong, I would love to fly one and think highly of what I've read and seen of the plane but this and some earlier threads are clearly technical discussion / sales generation of a specific model aircraft... Just saying out loud what seems obvious to me. If the admins decide that presenting the info on a new plane is more important than worrying about 'competition', I won't shed any tears.

The Serous Seaplane Site is off line and I did not think Splash and Dash was SeaRey only site. That is what the Tech site is for. I would like to see other kit seaplanes to see other ideals of how to do things.<br />I don't think the A24 is in the SeaRey price range and not competition.

Hi Ken:<br /><br />- As far as I am aware, this web site is not restricted to the Searey. <br />- The A-24 does not compete with the SeaRey. It is a tractor-configured, three seater and is more expensive. <br />- If you take the time to review any of my previous infrequent posts on this web site, you will find not one word of criticism with respect to the SeaRey. In fact, you will find that I have expressed respect and admiration for Kerry (who is a friend), PA, (for what they have accomplished) and the SeaRey itself (for its excellent performance). <br />- I find it difficult to conceptualize the content of any of my posts as 'sales-related', particularly given the fact that one cannot currently purchase an A-24 in North America. <br />-Yes, I have now accumulated 4 years of experience with the A-24 (the first two years in intensively evaluating its flight and water-borne characteristics and the last two years in getting it licenced as a quick-build kit here in Canada). And yes, at some point in the future the A-24 will become a viable product in the amphibious sector. But that point in time is at least a year or two away.<br />- Currently, I am building out the first quick-build kit (to identify and correct any building problems) and to put together a builder's manual. I will then fly the paint off the plane for at least another full year (to ensure that it performs as expected). At that point in time, the A-24 will likely become available to Canadian pilots (I have zero interest in having any involvement with sales into the USA).<br />-Aircraft sell (or don't sell) based on the price-performance ratio each brings to the market. The SeaRey is not perfect (no aircraft is, and that includes even my beloved Questair Venture) but it does provide an excellent price-performance ratio.<br />- Non-Searey folk are excluded from the SeaRey technical site. I cannot think of why this policy exists (as it would be a site of obvious interest to those who might be interested in acquiring a SeaRey or perhaps in contributing generic ideas relating to building or flying amphibious aircraft) . Be that as it may, that policy exists and I respect it. <br />'An A-24 sales interest thread' ? Hmmm. I wonder what percentage of all Splash and Dash posts relate to the A-24 compared with SeaRey-related posts? A bit of an overstatement perhaps? <br /><br />Larry Woods <br /><br /><br />

Larry - I don't think anyone intends to restrict this site to the Searey. It is generally restricted from technical discussions though. All posts that are of a technical nature and related to the Searey are removed. I have not suggested you criticized the Searey. I'm just suggesting that it puts the Searey community in an awkward position when potential buyers come to this site to potentially compare aircraft and only see tech discussion on non-Searey planes. Again, I hope some day to get a ride in your A-24, and am impressed with what I have seen so far in your posts. But I don't think it's a stretch to say these posts are exactly what a company marketing department would want to see in public before production to generate sales interest. I can't think of a way to structure our web sites (splash vs tech) to mitigate the challenge we created ourselves. Encouraging brutally honest discussions about technical aspects of the plane has been healthy and having those available to the public, much less potential competitors, would likely limit those exchanges of ideas. I suspect we'll simply keep it the way it is and live with the less-than-optimal results.

This site should not be about who's plane is better. It just happens that about 98% of the people on this site own a Searey. The rest of us may at times mention something other than pretty pictures from the air. We may want to talk about how our plane may handle in a certain situation. Remember we are pilots and we do have a tendency to talk tech. <br />This site should not be about promoting any plane over another. It should be about our experiences in flying off the water. No mater what we fly.<br /><br />Yes I do fly an Aventura II but I would also own a Searey, Ikon, A-24 or maybe even something on floats. Let's just keep it fun and not be so critical about the posts.

My point of view....<br />Open mind, open view, open discutions, open ideas, is the motor of the human spirit to be able to grow with respect of others...<br />Their is S-D<br />Thier is STS<br />And their is SSTS = Stop - Sit - Think - Share<br /><br />Bruno

Hi Ken:<br /><br />This will be my last post on this site. I was not aware that the thread was created/is oriented to SeaRey-only discussion . <br />Larry Woods <br /><br />Larry Woods

Larry - I certainly hope you continue to post here. I do not want to drive you or anyone away.

Oh, come on back, Larry. Some folks are just technically sensitive. When you start flying and telling us you can top tall buildings in a single bound, are faster than a speeding bullet, and we can get a 20% discount with a $5000 deposit we'll sic the administrative police on ya.

Eric Batterman - Jun 13,2010   Viewers  | Reply
Larry, Don't go. Dan, no need for the admin police if the claim is true (where do I send my $5,000?)

Me having been the king of posting goofy stuff on this site certainly can't say anything. I think Ken was just quoting from the rules, which states no tech stuff. I encourage Larry's posts as well as anything else, the more the better. Always nice to see how other things work.
