I was more than a little surprised to see this photo in my email inbox. My friend Jim took off first, so he couldn't have taken it. Who would have snapped it, and how did they find me and get my email address?

Turns out it was taken by a friendly boater, who thought it was 'very cool' and Googled the registration from the photo to get my name, then Googled my name to find my email address.

So much for being incognito.

I guess those clandestine flights when I'm supposed to be doing chores are no longer an option . . .

Dave, are you sure he is not an FAA inspector????

Join the club! Three times, I've had folks show or give me pics the SeaRey. The
latest was the lady who cut my hair, when she handed me a manila envelope
containing three gorgeous 8X10 glossies.

It's a sobering lesson, governs the way we conduct ourselves on the water, for sure.

[I should have added, that 100% of these were happy tributes.]

That is a great photo. And it certainly is a good lesson for us all.

    You're right, Andy!

It reinforces that we are all ambassadors for our sport, for the freedoms we have to build experimental aircraft and even for the design of airplane that we fly.

They say 'no man is an island'. I have never felt less like an island as when that picture showed up in the inbox.

She caught you flying below minimum, your going to get a ticket.

Thomas - if you mean the picture-taker, it was snapped moments after takeoff.

If you mean my wife, my drawer is already stuffed with unpaid tickets!

Ticket?

Has anyone had one of these lead to enforcement action of any type? I mean, the wheels are up, which means he's in the taking off or landing.

People seem eager to capture the beauty of our liftoffs, (shallow) finals, water ops. That's all I've gotten: "Hey, I took this neat sunset shot of you and wanted to share it..." One lady and her husband pulled out a photo album, showed me years of various photos capturing various SeaRey ops. For her, I painted my hull pink, flew in a regatta to commemorate her first year in remission. Strictly positive.

ยง 91.119 Minimum safe altitudes: General.Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes...

So as not to hijack the thread, I've made a NEWS category entitled "Complaints From Public" for these accounts of instances when SeaRey'ers have irked civilians.
