Westover in Winter

Description: Today is the winter solstice so of course I had to go flying.

The air was calm and clear and just above freezing. I flew from KFCI down the James River about halfway to Jamestown Island and back, buzzing my friend Tommy's house in both directions.

One of my favorite jokes is 'Michigan has only two seasons, winter and road repair.' The James River has road repair all year 'round. The channel has to be deep enough for ocean-going freighters, but the farmers and contractors in the interior keep trying to fill it up with silt. These guys are trying to send it back--or at least get it out of the channel.

This dredging operation came in two parts, with a long hose between.      Attachments:
