Description: KFCI was busy when I got back there. I was number three to land after a Citation and this lovely Piaggio P180 Avanti.

Piaggio has come a long way since its Vespa days.

There is an air taxi service at Clearwater with what I believe is the largest group of Piaggios in the world (55 planes). They fly over the house daily. Very distinctive sound - I'm told it's a 'square D' wave because of the relationship between the prop and trailing edge of the wing. Sounds like the prop is going supersonic to me but I know it's not. They do haul ass. VNE 460 MPH = 400 knots.

Nice airplane. Those funny little flappers on the front must be to keep that low bow from submerging on the water landings.

Apparently, all three sets of those horizontal thingies produce positive lift. There's no need for the stab in the rear to be negative to keep the nose up.

Would be very, very close coupled without the canard 'wings.' Not sure I really trust close coupled.

As an aside, I was looking at a B1 at an airshow (no, wasn't thinking of buying one,) and asked the pilot about the small winglet thingies at the nose. Apparently they sense the air pressure and adjust the flying surfaces accordingly to smooth out the bumps caused by changing air density. Wonder how long it will be before someone does that for GA. A smooth ride would be a significant upgrade.
