looks cute, does it fly?

    That would be my question.

There can't be much capacity left.

Salesman at Sebring booth said it added 265# . LSA gross is then changed from the 1320# to the 1430# amphib gross giving back 110# of it. The aircraft and the 100HP 'S' still has to lift it.

Floats are designed to carry their own weight in flight, there's a ton of use full load with this setup, and yes it lifts it.

I have heard of floats that try to carry their weight. I have heard of tip tanks that actually increase the gross of the app. But there is effort and money to increase anything legally. If the floats lift even more than their weight the aircraft must do 3.8 times its gross at the wing fittings!!! In the LSA Game 1430# and you are out !!

    Hi Dave:

I agree.

As an aside, I believe the float kit is manufactured in Canada (northwest of London, Ontario).

Matt Tucciarone - Jan 22,2011 Viewers | Reply
Yeah but the floats cost $42,000. You could buy a used Searey for that or at least most of it.

In my opinion a float plane is like flying on stilts...twice as tall and half the fun of a flying boat.

Yes, but up here in the north they have many advantages.
Matt, not if you know the owner of claymar floats.

Flew my SR yesterday after filling up (gas overflow came out of the filler neck).Fle,. smelled gas on board. Open both windows (42 F) BRRRRRRR! Landed.Felt like I had two Coronas mixd with Bloody Mary. Washed the inside with fresh water and bilged it out.

Dave, what do you think of the ICON amphib. Great stile (no sliding canopy) but nice interior, folding wings, no wing floats but $$$$$$.

Dave Lima - Jan 22,2011 Viewers | Reply
I will get one Ed, as long they build at least 160 of them. They are the ultimate amphibian.

see, it sucks for you big guys. you always are worrying about weight. I, on the other hand,
weigh 145 lbs!

Kenneth Leonard - Jan 23,2011 Viewers | Reply
See Daniel - you and I were ment to be either jockies or pilots and since the only horses I have any use for eat gas, not hay, it had to be flying...

Come back and tell us your weight in 40-50 years, youngsters!

Eric Batterman - Jan 24,2011 Viewers | Reply
Frank, I'll let you know when I get there, but I'm still below 155.

Kenneth Leonard - Jan 24,2011 Viewers | Reply
I don't know, Frank. Just had my 48th birthday. 118 lbs when I was 18 and 130 lbs now so by the time I'm 78, I'll be 142 lbs...

Frank A. Carr - Jan 24,2011 Viewers | Reply
I'm just lamenting the fact that I was around 140 once (as an adult). :-(

    Daniel,

I weighed 140 when I worked for the Buc company back in 1992 - give it a few years...

Daniel Paul Myers - Jan 24,2011 Viewers | Reply
i may get lucky...my grandpa is 150 also..and my dad is around 180...so im crossing
my fingers! the down side is that most seareys are tail heavy when i fly solo (not
trying to start a technical discussion!)
