Upon closer inspection maybe this was a Johnathan Swift lilliputian transport? Attachments:

    Are you back Lee?
Dennis and I are heading for Don Maxwell's on Friday..

Does that thing really fly??!

I'm back from 3 weeks of rain, fog and fun in New Foundland. No flying, but got a tour of the Gander Airport. Great views and 1600 pictures to prove it.

What do I need to come along? Can Don really handle 3 of us?

Don Maxwell - Jul 25,2011 Viewers | Reply
Sure, Lee. No prob! (We have two actual spare beds, plus a stand-alone inflatable bed, a good fold-out couch and lots of thick camping pads.)

Everyone: We're planning a splash-in on September 24 or 25 (depending on the weather) when the (freshwater) tide should be most propitious. And we're having a practice splash-in on August 27 or 28, with the same propitious tide. We hope you'll come if you can. There's beach parking for about 6 or 8 SeaRey-size amphibians and floatplanes, and convenient anchorage for about 5,000 seaplanes of any size.

AND: If you can get here this weekend (July 29-31), please do! Fly or drive. John and Dennis (and Lee?) will be here from Canada, weather permitting. We're planning at least one gaggle to First Flight Airport and the Wright Brothers Memorial at Kill Devil Hills and are considering other destinations as well. (Suggestions?) Come and join us if you can.

Phone 804-543-7110 for more info.

Where? Just east of Hopewell, Virginia. In Google Maps or Earth, just "tar bay" works for me.

Lee, you'll need to order a CBP 'DTOPS' DECAL at: https://dtops.cbp.dhs.gov/
You must register and file an EAPIS Manifest at: https://eapis.cbp.dhs.gov/
You must make sure your Licence and Passport insurance are current and have sectionals or current GPS Jeppesen data etc.
You should read the COPA/AOPA transborder guide.
We are planning to leave very early Friday for KERI, PA ETA 10am.
Our route to Don's is: CNN3-KERI-2G9-GVE-KFCI
Our route back on Monday: KFCI-GVE-2G9-8G2-CYKF-CNN3
We are carrying empty 5 gallon gas cans hoping to find MOGAS near 2G2

John, I'm negotiating with Diane on this one. Your proposed flight overflies CYKF so I would intend to meet up with you with an in-flight intercept ! Total flight 400 nm. Assume you would pick up fuel at 2G9. Remember, I'm slower and seem to use more fuel.
Will investigate other points on your through list.
Lee

Lee, bring Diane along with you. Carol says so.

Don, et al, Since they are flying right by Lake Anna if you keep me posted on Friday's timing and freq you all will be using and I'll fly up and join them when they go by GVE or LKU for an escort into your river place. Sounds like fun. 540-872-6744

OK Lee, I have sent you some info.

Bill, I'll keep Don advised of our progress. Be great to meet up with everyone who can make it!

Now if only the WX cooperates..

Update on Dunlop and Vogan: The weather cooperated just enough, and they arrived in the Richmond area a few minutes past seven this evening (Friday). The airplanes are at KFCI tonight and tomorrow (Saturday) we'll probably fly to KFFA to pay homage to the Wright boys. Probably try for the blimp hangar on the way back to our place on Tar Bay. Anyone who'd like to join in the gaggle, call me at 804-543-7110 after 0800.

Oh, it flew in supposedly. I imagine he has trouble trying to keep all 4 of those VW engines in sync, so that it doesn't shake itself to death.

They retired the skylizzards (C-141) in 2005 - the last medevac flight was out of Balad while I was there. Now the C-17 does it.
