Description: What’s this? Whiskey Tango bypassing sweet mountain water? It was tough to do, but this lake was just off the Carson City airport and on the edge of Reno’s busy airspace. Besides, we had some climbing to do.

This wasn’t exactly what we had in mind, but it was on the flight path to the wild places.      Attachments:

What’s that white line on the horizon? Clouds! Clouds in the mountains. And wind. Hmmm….could be a short flight.      Attachments:

The weather looks like it is just over the hills. So what? It’s all blue sky crystal water and sandy beach here!      Attachments:

Gee Dan, if the 'crack Investigators' hadn't solved this case, it could have been a good <br />starting point for a 'Geyser Tale', no?

Ann won't let me tell no steaming hot tales, Frank!

A cracker jacks team of investigators immediately descended to investigate the case of the mysterious steam vent.      Attachments:

This wasn’t any “old faithful” geyser, this thing was full time. Blowing off steam continuously (there were pulses, as water rushes in and out trying to quench the magma below).      Attachments:

Was this guy caught in bad weather? Maybe. A coyote scurried away when we arrived. I expect he’s the culprit.      Attachments:

Are those mountains holding back the weather? I suppose we should go find out.      Attachments:

Mystery solved: it’s just your basic geology (or more specifically, a hydrothermal vent).      Attachments:

Dan, The photo suggests you bring along tie-down ropes; but what about the tie down <br />'Stakes' per se? Do you carry those on X-country flights as well?

Dan Nickens - May 22,2012   Viewers  | Reply
Tie-dyed ropes? Them ain't no stinkin' ropes, Frank. Them are 'Reys in chains. Apparently they were expecting big winds. And, yes, I do carry but I never used (on this trip).
