Description: A few miles farther the Chowan straightened out and began to broaden. The town of Winton, NC, is almost visible through the haze. The river turns east there, and NC18, Rat Landing SPB, is about a mile beyond the bridge.

Winton is still around? I thought the Union Navy burned it to the ground in during the unCivil War.

We went into Winton for lunch, my first visit there. It seemed a lovely little town, one of those towns where there are still rows of diagonal parking places right in the middle of Main Street. Search for 36.39522,-76.932808 in GoogleMaps and try the street view. We had lunch at the restaurant next to the building with the blue canopy. Great Carolina barbeque!
