Description: Woke up this morning after returning at midnight from a trip to NJ and NYC to find this bit of flotsam on the beach.

How long is it? About 60 or 70 feet long. (The pilings are 10 feet apart.) How big in diameter? Big enough. When I tied a hitch around the butt end to tow it into the current, it appeared to be about 14 or 16 inches.

It was far too big and heavy for me to take apart on shore and burn, so I broke my own rule and towed it out with the Large Marge (Party Barge and Self-propelled Seaplane Tender) and set it moving downstream with the tide and the current.

So watch out downstream! This is one log you don't want to run into.

You are not allowed in NJ without stopping here! I'm telling Heather.

Don, Years back I was gifted with one like that but maybe 1/5th the length. I
wrapped a line around, hitched to my small tractor and began hauling up the beach
and up the rip-rap. The tractor flipped and I nearly got crushed. Should have done
what you did. I don't think the USCG fools around with major hazards to
navigation any more.
