Description: Williamsburg Airport (KJGG) held its first annual seaplane splash-in on Saturday. The event was somewhat unusual for seaplane splash-ins because although JGG is close to the James River, its only runway is paved. Here are the attending seaplanes. (The weather could have been better, I got there a bit late, so there may have been others that I didn't see.)

Nice pic Don. Are those 3 Kolbs in the back row?

Not sure what they are, Dave. They all took off while I was having lunch (excellent lunch restaurant there!), and I never had a chance for a close look.

Ah. That Maule. <br /><br />Dave, those aren't Kolbs...not sure what they are.

Yes, Maules are fine airplanes, Daniel. But they're awfully<I> civilized</I>. Try "SeaRey beaching" (next photo) in one a them hoity-toity thangs.<P>(But I don't mean to pick a fight. At 0800 on that same morning I watched that Maule ease up to a seawall in a local Marina that would have been very unkind to a SeaRey. A few minutes later Bill Fosdick in the Legend Cub eased in beside the Maule. It was all very civilized. Everyone got out handily and no one got wet. My SeaRey was safe at home.<P>(The event was to see if Hopewell VA could somehow emulate Tavares FL and become the Mid-Atlantic Seaplane City. <P>(<I>Possibly</I> it could.)<!-- >'"><br><font color=red size=6>' or &gt; missing in user HTML. Please fix the HTML.</font> -->

Been around Maule's for 24 years...25 if you include me riding <br />in one while in my mom's tummy. I am biased. They are a little <br />much. But it's like that first girlfriend. You'll always like her.
