Description: The good news: we get shared access to 400' of waterfront. The bad news: none of it is beach, it's all got about a 2' retaining wall and a very small boat ramp. Perfect for kayaks, and small boats, not so perfect for Seaplanes. OTOH, we're directly across the lake from Floathaven seaplane base.

Congratulations! Time for a shared access searey ramp - what with all the pilots in the community. How steep does the lake bed drop off?

Pretty steep. By the end of the dock you can easily dive into the water and not break your neck.

I'm hoping there will be a neighbor with beachfront who will be willing to trade a ride in return for access.

It looks like a great place, Steve. Good job! If you're permitted to build a ramp, you could build a semi-floating one that extends outward and downward to about 3 feet below the surface, with good flotation at the surface level. Piece of cake.

No can do, Don. The state owns the land underwater, so all we can do is repair the pier if if deteriorates.

It looks on the verge of collapse, Steve. The only safe thing to do is to convert it to a floating SeaRey-
friendly pier.
'Repair' can have all sorts of meanings... hint, hint.

I discovered by accident that the operative word here in the Chesapeake Bay watershed seems to be 'restore.' I said that once in a conversation with one of the 5 agencies that would have to approve any plan for just about anything within 100 feet of the water, and the person just said, 'Oh, well, that's that, then,' and closed up her file folder. Smiled sweetly and went away.
