Fascinating! I can't tell whether those dark patches are shadows cast by ridgelines or irregular plow patterns on flatland. Or some combination of the two. Maybe it's one of those images that the viewer's bias interprets in one way or another, a kind of optical illusion.

As I recall Don, the dark is plowed areas. Reminds me of a Minnesota school class where I learned about rotation and alternate crop techniques. One must remember the wheat fields are on very hilly terrain. It certainly is an interesting visual!
