Description: Our old friend, Roy G. Biv landed right at the end of our pier to save us from a drab day. He kept a sociable distance, but made us feel good. The ospreys seemed to enjoy him, too.

Did you find a pot of gold?

Have to confess I had to look that up. Never heard that term before.

Here's a "live" photo a few minutes later, with the ship on the far side of the rainbow.      Attachments:

Nice. The cargo must be a pot of gold for somebody!

Not for me, Dan. Or maybe it is: On our last day of living in Mexico one time, a bit south of Matamoros we came upon a lush green field of bright yellow flowers--daisies or buttercups--with a brilliant rainbow arcing down into it. (Mexico has color!) But I was down to the last roll of film, black and white. But I was desperate to get a shot and hoped for the best, some kind of best.

Of course, Roy G. Biv wasn't in it. The grass was grey and the flowers were grey and the sky, grey. Grey. (Somehow, grey seems greyer than gray.)

But just this morning I stumbled onto a Stieglitz exhibition online and his gray rainbow of exactly 100 years ago:

Lotsa buts today.

But in an eatery in a railroad yard that evening we found chili con carne en el estilo carcel--jailhouse chili. It brightened our spirits considerably and the next morning we crossed the line into Brownsville.
